We may have passed the last week in silence on these pages, but we have had a great week! So much time was given over to Olympics watching, I can’t quite believe we have shoe-horned in so much telly. But I can assure you that the Monkey-face is a staunch defender of her reading time. She demands a book when she wakes and another when she goes to bed and there are books with her childminder in the day. It’s utterly thrilling. On Friday, Uncle Dabid came to visit and – spying an opportunity to take advantage of a visitor’s politeness – she devoured book after book after book with him.
Meantime, I finished reading the middle of Mark Gatiss’ Lucifer Box stories, The Devil in Amber, which was amusing and easy to dip in and out of during sports-watching. I am now reading The Colour by Rose Tremain, a story of English emigrants to New Zealand and their battle to live off the unforgiving terrain. I’ve read a couple of the author’s other novels and I’ve always been amazed at the versatility of her narrative voice and the subject matter she chooses. I’m captivated by this story.
Things are ticking along nicely here at bookandbed towers. I hope you’ve had a great week!
